Shimmering brazilian psychedelia that bridges the gap between post-punk shadows and expansive space rock. Dreamy, melodic, and deeply atmospheric.
Violeta de Outono sounds like a bridge between the rainy, grey streets of 1980s post-punk and the cosmic, sun-drenched expanses of 1970s progressive rock. Their music is defined by Fabio Golfetti's signature guitar work, which utilizes heavy chorus and delay to create a liquid, shimmering sound that feels both nostalgic and otherworldly. It is rock music that breathes, favoring melody and atmosphere over aggression.
What makes them truly distinctive is their 'Autumnal' quality, a specific blend of Brazilian melodic sensibility with the space-rock explorations of bands like Gong or Pink Floyd. While their early work carries the rhythmic urgency of the gothic rock scene, their evolution into longer, more complex structures never loses that initial sense of mystery and dream-like intimacy. The vocals are often delivered in a hushed, almost whispered manner that pulls the listener into their private sonic world.
Start with their 1987 self-titled debut for a perfect introduction to their melodic post-punk roots, then move to 'Espectro' to hear how they matured into a world-class progressive space-rock outfit. It is the ideal soundtrack for moments of quiet reflection or long journeys where the destination matters less than the view.
Violeta de Outono (Portuguese for Autumn Violet) is a Brazilian rock band from São Paulo. Heavily influenced by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Gong, they were originally a post-punk band with some psychedelic elements intertwined, but would gradually drop their post-punk influences and add more prog elements to their sonority as time went by. The band underwent numerous changes in its line-up since its inception; the only founding member remaining today is vocalist/guitarist Fabio Golfetti.
