Relentless Swedish d-beat that hits like a physical weight. Gritty, high-velocity hardcore for when you need to burn through the noise of the world.
Victims deliver a masterclass in the 'Swedish sound,' a specific intersection of d-beat velocity and crust punk grit. Their music is defined by a propulsive, galloping rhythm section that never lets up, paired with guitars that sound like they were recorded through a rusted chainsaw. It is music of high friction and higher stakes, capturing the frantic energy of a basement show where the walls are sweating and the air is thin.
What truly sets them apart is their commitment to a 'precise and to the point' philosophy. While many of their peers lean into chaotic noise, Victims maintain a lean, muscular structure that makes their social critiques feel like blunt-force trauma. There is a dark, melodic undercurrent beneath the distortion, a hallmark of the Stockholm scene that provides a sense of bleak atmosphere amidst the sonic assault.
For those new to the band, 'A Dissident' is the essential starting point, showcasing their transition into a more expansive yet equally punishing sound. If you prefer your punk short, sharp, and stripped of all artifice, 'Divide and Conquer' offers a more primitive, high-speed experience that perfectly encapsulates their early mission.
Victims were a Swedish hardcore punk band, originally hailing from Nyköping, at the end of their career they were based in Stockholm. The final line-up consisted of lead vocalist and bass player Johan Eriksson, drummer Andy Henriksson, guitar player, vocalist Jon Lindqvist and guitar player Gareth Smith. Since their 1997 inception, the band released seven LPs and two EPs, through labels like Havoc Records, La Familia, Deathwish, Tankcrimes, Relapse and more.
