Vedera, originally formed as Veda in Kansas City, Missouri, represents a specific bridge between the mid-2000s indie-emo scene and the more polished alternative pop of the late 2000s. Led by Kristen May, the band developed a sound characterized by high-register vocal acrobatics and shimmering, delay-heavy guitar work.
Their career arc saw them move from the grassroots success of 'The Weight of an Empty Room' (2005) to a major-label deal with Epic Records for their 2009 breakthrough 'Stages'. Critically, they were often praised for May's exceptional vocal range and the band's ability to craft 'earnest' melodies that avoided the clichés of their contemporaries.
