Intro

Valery Leontiev is the ultimate showman of the late Soviet and post-Soviet era, a whirlwind of glitter, leather, and soaring vocals. His sound is a maximalist blend of driving disco rhythms, shimmering 80s synthesizers, and the kind of dramatic pop-rock that demands a stage. It feels like a high-budget variety show from a lost decade, where every song is an event and every chorus is a mountain to be climbed.

What sets him apart is the sheer athleticism of his performance and the theatricality of his voice. Unlike the more reserved crooners of his time, Leontiev brought a rock-star physicality and a campy, avant-garde visual style to the 'estrada' tradition. His music often features complex arrangements where funky basslines meet orchestral flourishes, all serving as a backdrop for his powerful, vibrato-rich baritone.

Start with his 1980s hits like 'Deltaplan' or 'Augustine' to experience the peak of his synth-pop powers. These tracks capture the optimistic, neon-soaked energy that made him a household name across Eurasia. It is music that refuses to be small, perfect for when you need to feel like the protagonist of a very expensive movie.
