Umpire

Umpire is a Perth-based indie rock collective formed in 2006, emerging from the deep lineage of the Western Australian alternative scene. The founding members, Simon Struthers, Geoff Symons, and Michael Lake, brought experience from seminal local acts like Adam Said Galore and Mukaizake. Initially conceived as a studio-only project, the band utilized the recording environment as a primary instrument, a philosophy that defines their highly polished and layered sonic identity. Their sound is characterized by a sophisticated blend of indie rock, dream pop, and subtle new wave influences, often featuring shimmering guitar work and melodic vocal arrangements.
