Tyrant

Tyrant is a cornerstone of the Japanese symphonic black metal scene, formed in 1994. While they share a name with several European and Australian acts, the Japanese Tyrant is distinguished by a highly theatrical and melodic approach that blends the grim aesthetics of black metal with neoclassical and traditional heavy metal elements.

Their sound identity is built on a foundation of dense synthesizer orchestration, often utilizing harpsichord and organ patches to create a 'vampiric' or gothic atmosphere. Unlike the lo-fi production of their Scandinavian contemporaries, Tyrant opted for a more maximalist, 'big' sound that emphasizes epic song structures and melodic clarity.
