TTNG

Intricate, interlocking guitar patterns and polyrhythmic drums that feel like a clockwork heart. Clean, melodic math rock for deep focus and quiet reflection.

Intro

TTNG creates music that feels like a beautifully complex architectural drawing brought to life. Their sound is defined by the incredible interplay between Tim Collis's hyper-melodic, finger-tapped guitar lines and a rhythm section that treats odd time signatures with the fluidity of a jazz trio. It is technically demanding but emotionally accessible, avoiding the coldness often associated with 'math' genres in favor of a warm, organic intimacy.

What truly sets them apart is the 'clean' aesthetic. Eschewing heavy distortion, they rely on the natural chime of their instruments, allowing every ghost note on the snare and every harmonic on the fretboard to ring out with crystalline clarity. The vocals act as a grounding force, providing breathy, melodic anchors amidst the shifting rhythmic sands, creating a sense of restless movement that never feels chaotic.

Start with the album Animals for a masterclass in modern math rock songwriting. It captures a specific era of the UK underground where technical proficiency met indie-rock vulnerability. If you prefer something more stripped back, their acoustic reinterpretations reveal the sheer strength of the melodic skeletons beneath their complex arrangements.

TTNG (formerly known as This Town Needs Guns) are a British math rock band from Oxford, formed in 2002, and currently signed to the American label Sargent House Records. Following numerous departures, the band went from being a four-piece to a trio, featuring Henry Tremain on bass and lead vocals, Tim Collis on guitar and his brother Chris Collis on drums. Their debut full-length album, Animals, was released in the UK via Big Scary Monsters Recording Company in October 2008 and shortly after in the US via Sargent House Records. They have released four studio albums, as well as numerous EPs and singles.
