Aggressive French hard rock with a punk heart. Gritty, politically charged anthems that bridge the gap between AC/DC's groove and Iron Maiden's percussive power.
This is the sound of French working-class frustration boiled over into high-voltage hard rock. It carries the DNA of early 80s heavy metal but strips away the fantasy elements in favor of raw, street-level political commentary. The guitars are thick and bluesy, yet they bite with a punk-like urgency that demands your attention immediately.
What truly sets them apart is the vocal delivery of Bernie Bonvoisin, whose raspy, confrontational style echoes the legendary Bon Scott but with a distinctly Gallic snarl. The rhythm section is famously formidable, having served as a training ground for Iron Maiden's most iconic drummers, resulting in a locked-in, driving pulse that feels like a steam engine at full tilt.
Start with their 1980 masterpiece 'Répression'. It contains 'Antisocial', the definitive anthem of French rock, and perfectly captures their blend of social consciousness and Marshall-stack power. It is the ideal entry point for anyone who likes their rock music with a side of genuine rebellion.
Trust are a French hard rock band, founded in 1977 and popular in Europe in the first half of the 1980s. They are best known for guitarist Norbert "Nono" Krief's prowess, for Bernard "Bernie" Bonvoisin's voice (reminiscent of AC/DC's Bon Scott) and for lyrics about social and political themes. The drummers Nicko McBrain and Clive Burr, each of whom is famous for having been a member of Iron Maiden, were at different times in the 1980s part of the Trust line-up. The band disbanded in 1985 and reformed in the 2000s for live shows and new recordings.
