Slinky, cosmopolitan nu jazz that blends bossa nova warmth with crisp electronic breakbeats. Perfect for rooftop cocktails or late-night urban wandering.
Trüby Trio creates a sound that feels like a perfectly tailored suit: effortless, sophisticated, and timeless. They occupy the elegant intersection of organic instrumentation and electronic precision, where live percussion and upright bass meet the rhythmic complexity of broken beat. It is music that feels inherently European yet deeply rooted in the rhythmic traditions of Brazil and Spain, resulting in a cosmopolitan blend that is both danceable and deeply relaxing.
What truly sets them apart is their ability to maintain a 'live' feel within a studio-polished framework. While many of their contemporaries in the downtempo scene leaned into heavy synthesis, the Trio prioritized the swing. You can hear the influence of DJ Rainer Trüby's crate-digging background in the way they layer rare-groove textures over modern club structures, creating a bridge between the jazz cafe and the underground dancefloor.
Start with 'Elevator Music' for a masterclass in the nu jazz genre. Despite the cheeky title, it is anything but background noise; it is a rich, layered experience that rewards focused listening. For a more rhythmic, DJ-focused journey, their 'DJ-Kicks' compilation showcases their impeccable taste and ability to weave disparate global sounds into a singular, cohesive groove.
Trüby Trio are a German music group specialising in nu jazz and broken beat. Founded in 1997 by Rainer Trüby, Roland Appel and Christian Prommer, their Latin-influenced sound, integrating bossa nova and flamenco styles, saw the band become pioneers of the nu jazz sound. Their early remixes of artists such as Nitin Sawhney led to the band's own releases on the Compost Records label, with their own work being subject to remixes by artists including Tiefschwarz, Louie Vega and Señor Coconut. The band were asked to compile the DJ-Kicks: Trüby Trio album in 2001, and their debut studio album, Elevator Music, followed in 2003.
