Intro

Tipper creates music that sounds like a living, breathing ecosystem made of chrome and light. It is incredibly tactile, moving between 'wet' squelching synths that feel like they are dripping from the speakers and 'dry' percussive clicks that snap with surgical precision. The bass is not just a sound but a physical presence, often diving into frequencies that rattle the sternum while delicate, crystalline melodies float far above the fray.

What sets him apart is the marriage of high-concept sound design with the soul of a hip-hop DJ. Even at his most experimental, there is a rhythmic 'swing' and a mastery of scratching that keeps the music grounded in human movement. He treats the stereo field like a 3D canvas, placing sounds in specific physical locations that seem to dance around the listener's head, creating a sense of space that few other electronic producers can replicate.

For the uninitiated, start with 'Forward Escape' to experience his peak psychedelic storytelling, or 'Broken Soul Jamboree' if you prefer a more organic, downtempo journey. If you want to hear the origins of glitch-hop, 'Tip Hop' remains the definitive blueprint for how to break a beat and put it back together in a way that feels both alien and familiar.

David Alexander Tipper, also known as Tipper for short (born c. 1976 in Wimbledon, London, England) is a British composer and producer specialising in electronic music that ranges from ambient, through trip hop, to uptempo nu skool breaks. His live performances consist largely of his own unreleased compositions, and he is noted for scratching his own sounds over his music, creating a live element of turntablism stemming from prowess early in his career as a vinyl DJ. Tipper is widely respected as a surround sound composer, releasing one of the first albums composed, produced, and intended for the DualDisc format, in addition to providing content for multichannel music industry leaders DTS, Inc. His talents at sound design (his work is included in several of the major music making software programs), and in digital audio mastering, are also in great demand. His catalogue has been consistently licensed for use as background in a variety of mainstream television programmes, and also featured in commercials and cable television projects.
