The Sorrow

The Sorrow emerged from the Austrian metal scene in 2005, quickly ascending to international prominence within the melodic metalcore subgenre. Formed by members of Disconnected and Distance, the band refined a sound that drew heavily from the 'Gothenburg' melodic death metal school (At the Gates, In Flames) while adopting the structural dynamics of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal.

Their 2007 debut, 'Blessings From a Blackened Sky,' earned them an Amadeus Austrian Music Award and established them as a leading European voice in the genre. Throughout their career, they maintained a reputation for high-precision live performances and a consistent output that balanced aggression with melodic accessibility. Critically, they are often grouped with acts like Caliban and As I Lay Dying, though they are noted for a slightly more melancholic atmosphere. The band's influence is most felt in the Central European metal scene, where they helped bridge the gap between traditional metal aesthetics and the modern core movement before their eventual dissolution.
