Soulful, high-gloss house music with soaring strings and big-room energy. Perfect for sunset sessions and losing yourself on a crowded dance floor.
The Shapeshifters represent the pinnacle of sophisticated, high-energy house music that bridges the gap between the underground and the pop charts. Their sound is defined by a lush, orchestral approach to dance music, often featuring live brass, sweeping string arrangements, and powerful, soulful vocalists who command attention. It is music that feels expensive, celebratory, and deeply rooted in the classic disco tradition while maintaining a modern club edge.
What sets them apart is their commitment to the 'song' within the dance track. While many house producers focus solely on the loop, Simon Marlin crafts full-bodied compositions with dramatic builds and cathartic releases. The production is consistently shimmering and hi-fi, favoring warm analog textures and live instrumentation over cold, digital minimalism. It is the sound of Ibiza at its most glamorous.
Start with 'Lola's Theme' to hear the definitive 2000s house anthem, then move into their more recent work like 'Finally Ready' to experience their evolution into a more refined, disco-influenced sound. Their music is a reliable gateway for anyone who loves the soul of 70s dance floors but wants the punch of a modern sound system.
The Shapeshifters is the current alias of British house producer Simon Marlin and a former duo comprising Marlin and Swedish producer Max Reich, from Gothenburg. The Shapeshifters have been signed to Defected Records since 2008, and the duo were previously signed to Positiva. They are best known for their debut single "Lola's Theme", which went to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in July 2004. Formerly producing and touring as a duo with Max Reich, Marlin has continued working and performing under the Shapeshifters moniker as a solo act since 2017. His physical releases in the United States fell under the name Shape:UK, in part due to a trademark conflict with the Los Angeles-based hip hop group the Shape Shifters.
