The Masochist

The Masochist is a pivotal alias of Dov Elkabas, better known as The Prophet, a founding father of the Dutch hardcore and hardstyle scenes. Operating primarily under the ID&T and Masters of Hardcore umbrellas, The Masochist project was instrumental in defining the 'Mainstyle' hardcore sound of the late 1990s.

This era moved away from the simplistic 'happy hardcore' of the early decade toward a darker, more industrial-influenced aesthetic. The sonic identity is built on the '909' kick drum, pushed through extreme distortion to create a tonal, rhythmic thud that serves as both bass and percussion.
