Formed in 2001 in Berkeley, California, The Lonely Island is an American comedy hip-hop trio consisting of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer. After relocating to Los Angeles to pursue filmmaking, the group gained prominence through early internet content and their work with Channel 101. Their creative success eventually led to a long-standing tenure as writers and performers on Saturday Night Live, with their music released through Universal Republic Records.
