High-octane funk-metal delivered by a bassless duo. Raw, organic rock that pairs soulful falsetto with heavy, syncopated grooves for a high-energy experience.
The Inspector Cluzo sounds like a collision between a vintage funk ensemble and a heavy blues-rock power trio, despite only consisting of two people. Their music is defined by a massive, uncompressed sound where the lack of a bass player is compensated for by thick, distorted guitar tones and incredibly busy, rhythmic drumming. It is loud, proud, and deeply rooted in a sense of place, often reflecting their dual lives as professional musicians and organic farmers in rural France.
What makes them truly distinctive is the vocal delivery of Laurent Lacrouts, who frequently jumps into a soaring, soulful falsetto that contrasts sharply with the aggressive, gritty instrumentation. This 'Rockfarmers' aesthetic blends the sophistication of 70s funk with the raw power of garage rock, creating a sound that feels both sophisticated and primal. There is an authentic, hand-made quality to their recordings that shuns digital perfection in favor of live energy.
Start with 'Horizon' or 'Gasconha Rocks' to hear their signature blend of high-voltage riffs and infectious grooves. If you want to hear their more contemplative side, 'Brothers in Ideals' offers a stripped-back look at their songwriting, proving that their chemistry holds up even when the amplifiers are turned down.
The Inspector Cluzo is a French rock group from Mont-de-Marsan, Landes, France that formed in 2007. The group is composed of Laurent "Malcolm" Lacrouts on the guitar and vocals and Mathieu "Phil" Jourdain on the drums. Both are Mont-de-Marsan natives and former members of the band Wolfunkind. The name of the group was proposed by their friend and Fishbone singer Angelo Moore and references the character Inspector Clouseau who appears in the Pink Panther movies.
