The Honeydrips

Shimmering Swedish indie pop that feels like a fading Polaroid. Hazy synths and cinematic samples create a world of beautiful, sun-drenched melancholy.

Intro

The Honeydrips sound like the exact moment the sun dips below the horizon on the last day of August. It is music built from the fragments of memory: dusty drum machine loops, shimmering synth pads, and vocals that sound like they are being whispered from the next room. There is a distinctively Swedish sense of 'vemod' here, a tender sadness that feels comforting rather than crushing.

Mikael Carlsson excels at finding the intersection between bedroom-pop intimacy and cinematic grandeur. By weaving in dialogue samples from classic films like Annie Hall and Rebel Without a Cause, he elevates simple pop songs into vignettes of urban loneliness and romantic longing. The production is purposefully soft around the edges, favoring warmth and atmosphere over clinical precision.

Start with the 2007 debut 'Here Comes the Future'. It is the definitive statement of the Sincerely Yours label aesthetic, blending the DIY spirit of twee with the expansive textures of dream pop. It is the perfect companion for anyone who finds beauty in the quiet, reflective spaces of a busy life.

The Honeydrips is Mikael Carlsson’s (former lead singer for Dorotea) electronic pop music solo project. The electropop band is under the Swedish label Sincerely Yours. Here Comes the Future came out in 2007 and received an 8.4 on Pitchfork Media. Also released are the singles "I Wouldn’t Know What To Do" and "(Lack of) Love Will Tear Us Apart". The track "Fall From A Height" from Here Comes The Future samples quotes from Annie Hall, when the little Woody Allen talks about the expansion of the universe, and Rebel Without a Cause. On June 30, 2010, Mikael Carlsson announced the end of The Honeydrips, releasing one final song – "Höstvisa". He continue to make music in the band WÆE all along the years. The Honeydrips returned in October 2014, releasing the single "Oh Stampe, Oh Stella" on the Swedish label Luxury. In January 2015, Mikael Carlsson announced a new album entitled "In The City".
