Formed in the Netherlands in 1989, The Gathering evolved from an atmospheric doom metal act into a versatile group blending progressive metal, gothic metal, and alternative rock. Throughout their career, the band has navigated numerous lineup changes, including the pivotal 1995 arrival of vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen. Their sound has continuously shifted, incorporating elements of shoegaze, post-rock, and trip hop while maintaining a significant presence on the Century Media Records label.
