Gritty West Midlands pop-punk with a raspy edge. High-energy anthems for basement shows, skate parks, and loud, defiant afternoons.
The Fight delivers a punchy, high-octane brand of pop-punk that trades sugary sweetness for a layer of West Midlands grit. Their sound is defined by driving power chords, aggressive drumming, and Kate Turley's distinctive, raspy vocal delivery that cuts through the mix with genuine urgency. It is music that feels like it was born on a sidewalk and perfected in a crowded club.
What sets them apart is the balance between the melodic sensibilities of the early 2000s California scene and a uniquely British toughness. While their peers were often leaning into polished emo-pop, The Fight maintained a raw, busking-influenced energy that caught the attention of punk royalty. The production is crisp but retains a live, kinetic feel that makes every track sound like a call to action.
Start with 'Home Is Where The Hate Is' to hear the band at their most concentrated and rebellious. It captures the transition from their Dudley roots to the international stage, offering a perfect entry point into their fast-paced, no-nonsense discography.
The Fight was an English pop punk band, founded in 2000 in Dudley, West Midlands, England. The band consisted of singer and guitarist Kate "K8" Turley (formerly in the band 21st Century Girls), drummer Jack Turley (her younger brother), Scott Milner also on guitar and bassist Tom Calder. In 2002, New Found Glory's road crew overheard them busking outside a gig in Leicester. When New Found Glory’s guitarist, Chad Gilbert, heard their record he invited them to open for them in London and took their demo back to his label. They were signed by Fat Wreck Chords who put out their first EP, Home Is Where the Hate Is, in 2003. Their first album Nothing New Since Rock 'n' Roll was released in 2004 on Repossession Records. The Fight have toured the UK, Japan and the United States with bands such as Rancid, Yellowcard, Sugarcult, Brand New and the Starting Line and played on the Warped Tour in summer 2005. After performing with the Fight, Kate Turley and Tom Calder formed the production duo TC4.
