The Ducky Boys

Gritty, heart-on-sleeve street punk from Boston. It is the sound of working-class stories told through raspy vocals and anthemic, no-nonsense rock and roll.

Intro

The Ducky Boys occupy that specific, sweat-soaked intersection where the raw aggression of street punk meets the earnest storytelling of heartland rock. Their music feels like a conversation in a dimly lit Charlestown tavern: it is honest, slightly bruised, and fiercely loyal to its roots. While they have the speed and bite of their punk peers, there is a melodic depth and a sense of 'three chords and the truth' that elevates them above simple genre tropes.

What truly sets them apart is the evolution of Mark Lind's songwriting. Over their career, the band transitioned from blistering, high-velocity riffs to a more measured, rock-influenced sound that allows the lyrics to breathe. You can hear the ghosts of The Replacements and Bruce Springsteen haunting their power chords, providing a sense of weary wisdom that is rare in the often-youthful punk scene.

Start with 'Three Chords and the Truth' to hear the band at their most iconic. It captures the perfect balance of their early street-punk energy and the maturing songwriting that would define their later work. It is the essential soundtrack for anyone who believes punk should have a heart as big as its volume.

The Ducky Boys are a street punk band from Boston. Since forming in 1995 in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, the band has released six full-length albums and over 80 songs. The band's name is derived from the name of an Irish street gang in the 1979 movie, The Wanderers. Since 2004, the band has been composed of frontman Mark Lind (bass guitar and vocals), drummer Jason Messina, and guitarist Douglas Sullivan. The Ducky Boys have released five studio albums (the last three from this current line-up) along with several 7-inch records and appearances on compilations. Rich Crimlisk joined the band in 2012 and played on the Chemicals EP as well as the sixth studio album. Over the last ten years, the band's sound has evolved from quick punk riffs to more stripped-down rock music and a developing message of social consciousness. However, the band's influences, which include Rancid, The Replacements, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, and dozens of other punk and rock n' roll bands, still remains a major element in the band's sound. This band should not be confused with another punk band by a similar name, Ducky Boys, from Brooklyn, New York, formed in the early 1980s, and featured on the 2006 Staring Down the Barrel compilation, which has over a dozen tracks by very obscure, unknown punk bands from 1979 to 1983.
