Textures is a seminal Dutch progressive metal outfit that played a foundational role in the evolution of the 'djent' and modern math-metal movements. Formed in 2001, they bridged the gap between the chaotic technicality of Meshuggah and the melodic sensibilities of alternative rock.

Their debut, Polars, was a landmark in the European scene, blending ambient soundscapes with aggressive metalcore. Over their career, they evolved into a more polished, groove-oriented entity, particularly with the addition of vocalist Daniël de Jongh, whose range allowed for more expansive melodic structures. Critically, they are regarded as 'musician's musicians,' frequently cited for Stef Broks' innovative drumming and the band's collective ability to make odd time signatures feel intuitive. Their influence is visible in the current wave of progressive metalcore bands like TesseracT and VOLA. Despite a hiatus in the late 2010s, their return in 2024/2025 reaffirms their position as architects of a sound that prioritizes both technical proficiency and atmospheric depth.
