Terraplane Sun

Sun-drenched California rock with a swampy blues heart. Warm harmonica and mandolin textures for golden hour drives and beachside bonfires.

Intro

Terraplane Sun sounds like the exact midpoint between a dusty Mississippi Delta porch and a hazy Venice Beach boardwalk. Their music is built on a foundation of organic, hand-played instruments like the mandolin, accordion, and a particularly soulful harmonica that cuts through the mix with vintage authority. It is warm, analog, and deeply rooted in the 'California Sound' of the late 60s, yet it carries a rhythmic stomp that feels right at home in the modern indie-folk landscape.

What truly distinguishes the band is their ability to marry swampy, grit-flecked blues with an undeniable pop sensibility. While many blues-rock bands lean into aggression, Terraplane Sun leans into the groove and the atmosphere of the West Coast. Ben Rothbard's vocals provide a raspy, soulful anchor that makes every track feel lived-in and authentic, while the eclectic instrumentation - ranging from trombone to lap steel - adds layers of unexpected color to their rootsy arrangements.

Start with 'Get Me Golden' for their most infectious, foot-stomping energy, then dive into the album 'Coyote' to hear their full range of psych-tinged Americana. It is the perfect soundtrack for anyone who wants their rock and roll to feel like a long, unhurried summer afternoon.

Terraplane Sun is an American band from Venice, Los Angeles. It was formed by Ben Rothbard (lead vocals, guitar, harmonica), Johnny Zambetti (lead guitar, mandolin, vocals), Chris "Cecil" Campanaro (bass, vocals), Gabe Feenberg (lap steel guitar, accordion, trombone), and Lyle Riddle (drums). The band is best known for the Get Me Golden single. On April 14, 2017, Terraplane Sun announced that the band would rebrand themselves as The Palms following a record label dispute.
