Formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1997, Taproot is an American alternative metal band. The group gained prominence after signing with Atlantic Records, releasing their debut album Gift in 2000. They achieved significant commercial success with their 2002 album Welcome, which sold over 500,000 copies. The record featured their breakthrough hit single, Poem, which reached the top five on the Mainstream Rock chart. The band currently features Stephen Richards.
