Télépopmusik emerged from the vibrant French electronic scene of the late 1990s, distinguishing themselves from the 'French Touch' house movement through a commitment to downtempo, trip-hop, and ambient textures. Formed by Fabrice Dumont, Stephan Haeri, and Christophe Hetier, the trio combined backgrounds in pop, solo electronic production, and DJ culture. Their 2001 debut, Genetic World, became a cornerstone of the chillout era, largely propelled by the global success of the single 'Breathe.' This track established their sonic identity: minimalist percussion, airy synth pads, and the distinctive, breathy vocals of Angela McCluskey.

Critically, they are recognized for bridging the gap between pop accessibility and experimental electronic textures. Their second album, Angel Milk (2005), leaned further into cinematic and melancholic territories, featuring more complex arrangements and diverse vocal contributions from Mau and Deborah Anderson. After a long hiatus, they returned with 'Everybody Breaks the Line' in 2020, proving the timelessness of their sleek, atmospheric approach. Their influence is felt across the 'lounge' and 'chillout' compilations of the 2000s, but they remain respected for a level of production detail and emotional depth that many of their peers lacked. They occupy a cultural space similar to Zero 7 or Air, where electronic music becomes a vessel for sophisticated, introspective songwriting.
