Switched

Switched (originally Sw1tch) emerged from the fertile Cleveland, Ohio metal scene in the late 1990s, eventually becoming a staple of the Ozzfest and Warped Tour era. Their sound identity is a quintessential representation of the 2000-2004 nu-metal peak, blending the rhythmic syncopation of rap-influenced metal with the melodic choruses of post-grunge.

Signed to the influential Immortal Records, they shared a lineage with genre giants like Korn and 311, though their sound leaned closer to the aggressive, street-level intensity of peers like Nothingface and Stereomud. The band's history is marked by significant lineup volatility, particularly within the rhythm section, which saw members move on to prominent acts like Chimaira and Breaking Benjamin. Their debut, 'Subject to Change', remains a cult classic of the genre, selling over 100,000 copies. The follow-up project, 'Ghosts in the Machine', showcased a shift toward more programmed elements and industrial textures before the band entered an indefinite hiatus due to label friction. Critically, they are viewed as a highly competent, 'second-wave' nu-metal act that possessed a stronger melodic core than many of their peers.
