High-velocity melodic hardcore that pairs blistering speed with revolutionary optimism. Anthemic, politically charged punk for the front lines and the skate park.
Strike Anywhere sounds like the exact moment a protest turns into a celebration. It is fast, loud, and relentlessly energetic, defined by Thomas Barnett’s distinctive vocal delivery that sits perfectly between a melodic singalong and a desperate shout. The guitars are thick with distortion but never muddy, often breaking into bright, soaring octave leads that provide a sense of hope against the backdrop of aggressive, driving percussion.
What truly sets them apart is their 'revolutionary optimism.' While many of their peers in the hardcore scene lean into nihilism or pure aggression, Strike Anywhere’s music feels like a call to action that actually believes change is possible. The songs are structured as anthems, utilizing massive gang vocals and catchy hooks to make complex political theories feel like visceral, shared experiences.
Start with 'Exit English' to hear the band at their most cohesive and powerful. It captures the perfect balance of their Richmond hardcore roots and the polished, melodic sensibilities that made them a staple of the 2000s punk explosion. It is music designed to be heard at maximum volume while surrounded by people who care as much as you do.
Strike Anywhere is an American punk rock band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 1999 after the demise of frontman Thomas Barnett's previous band, Inquisition, they took their name from the Inquisition song "Strike Anywhere". Their music is characterized by fast tempos, catchy melodies, and emotionally charged vocals delivered via shouting and singing. The band received an increased amount of attention after their music appeared in three Tony Hawk video games: Tony Hawk's Underground in 2003 ("Refusal"), Tony Hawk's American Wasteland in 2005 ("Question the Answer"), and Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam in 2006 ("The Promise"). They were also featured in the documentary, Wake Up Screaming, about the 2005 Vans Warped Tour.
