Symphonic metal with a progressive heart and haunting violin. Dramatic, melodic, and anchored by Marcela Bovio's soaring vocals for fans of theatrical heavy rock.
Stream of Passion was originally conceived as a project by Dutch multi-instrumentalist Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon) to showcase the vocal talents of Marcela Bovio. Their 2005 debut, 'Embrace the Storm', was notable for its international collaborative process, being written primarily over the internet between members in Mexico, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
Following Lucassen's departure in 2007, the band transitioned into a democratic unit led by Bovio, evolving their sound from gothic-leaning symphonic metal into a more complex, progressive style. Their sound identity is defined by Bovio's classically trained soprano and her prominent use of the violin, which often serves as a lead instrument alongside the guitars. Critically, they are praised for avoiding the 'beauty and the beast' vocal clichés of their genre, opting instead for a singular, powerful female lead. After a hiatus beginning in 2016, their 2022 reformation solidified their status as a cult favorite in the European metal scene, bridging the gap between symphonic grandeur and technical art-rock.
