Stonefield

Heavy, fuzz-drenched riffs and swirling organ lines that feel like a 1970s desert fever dream. Powerful psych-rock for fans of deep grooves and high-voltage energy.

Intro

Stonefield sounds like a lost reel from a 1972 recording session in the Australian outback. It is a massive, tactile wall of sound where heavy Sabbath-style riffs meet the psychedelic expansiveness of early Pink Floyd. The music is anchored by a thunderous rhythm section that feels both loose and incredibly locked-in, providing a foundation for swirling Hammond organ melodies and soaring, powerful vocals that cut through the fuzz like a beacon.

What truly sets them apart is the uncanny cohesion of their sibling chemistry. Because the four sisters have played together since childhood, their transitions and dynamic shifts feel instinctive rather than rehearsed. There is a specific grit to their production, especially on later albums like Bent, that leans into a darker, more doom-influenced corner of psychedelic rock, favoring murky textures and hypnotic, repetitive grooves over standard pop structures.

Start with the album Bent if you want to experience their heaviest, most refined sound. It captures the band at their most confident, blending stoner rock weight with intricate, prog-leaning arrangements. If you prefer something slightly more melodic but still high-energy, Far From Earth offers a perfect bridge between their classic rock roots and their more experimental psychedelic future.

Stonefield are an Australian rock band comprising the four Findlay sisters: Amy, Hannah, Sarah and Holly. They were formed in 2006 as Iotah in Darraweit Guim, a small town in rural Victoria. They changed their name in 2010 and have released four studio albums, Stonefield (October 2013), As Above, So Below (July 2016) — which peaked at No. 19 on the ARIA Albums Chart — Far from Earth (April 2018), and Bent (June 2019).
