High-energy German satire that turns political gaffes and viral clips into infectious funk-pop. Irreverent, multi-instrumental, and deeply rooted in TV culture.
Stefan Raab’s music is a chaotic, high-energy collision of late-night television aesthetics and genuine musical craftsmanship. It sounds like a house band that has been given permission to mock the guests, blending tight funk rhythms with catchy Europop hooks. There is a tactile, live-performance quality to much of his work, often punctuated by the bright chirp of a ukulele or the punchy stabs of a horn section, all serving as a backdrop for his distinctive, often nasal vocal delivery.
What truly sets Raab apart is his surgical use of sampling. Long before TikTok made audio memes a global currency, Raab was turning the verbal stumbles of politicians and the eccentricities of everyday people into chart-topping singles. He treats the German language as a rhythmic toy, twisting dialects and catchphrases into repetitive, hypnotic earworms that bridge the gap between high-concept satire and low-brow comedy.
For the uninitiated, starting with his Eurovision entry 'Wadde Hadde Dudde Da' provides the perfect entry point into his brand of colorful absurdity. From there, 'Maschen-Draht-Zaun' showcases his ability to manufacture a national phenomenon out of a single word. It is music that demands you don't take it seriously, yet rewards you with surprisingly sophisticated arrangements.
