Steelheart

Sky-high operatic vocals meeting heavy melodic riffs. This is the peak of 90s glam metal, built for stadium anthems and heart-wrenching power ballads.

Intro

Steelheart represents the absolute ceiling of vocal athleticism in the hard rock world. Their sound is defined by massive, polished production where every snare hit feels like a thunderclap and every guitar solo is draped in shimmering reverb. It is music that refuses to be small, characterized by a relentless pursuit of the grandest possible emotional and sonic scale.

What truly separates them from their hair metal peers is the sheer technicality of Miljenko Matijevic's voice. While many of their contemporaries relied on grit and attitude, Steelheart leaned into an almost operatic precision. They possess the rare ability to transition from a whisper to a glass-shattering high note without losing melodic control, creating a sense of tension and release that is physically palpable.

Start with their self-titled debut to hear the definitive blueprint of the 1990 hard rock sound. The transition from the driving energy of 'Can't Stop Me Lovin' You' to the legendary vocal heights of 'She's Gone' provides the perfect introduction to their range. It is the ideal starting point for anyone who appreciates the intersection of heavy metal power and pop-sensible melody.

Steelheart is an American glam metal band from Norwalk, Connecticut, that formed in 1989. At the time that their debut was recorded, the band's members consisted of vocalist Miljenko Matijevic, lead guitarist Chris Risola, rhythm guitarist Frank DiCostanzo, bassist James Ward and the now deceased drummer John Fowler. The current lineup contains Miljenko Matijevic, Mike Humbert, Joe Pessia and James Ward. Steelheart's debut album, the self-titled Steelheart (1990), which was released on May 10, 1990, was certified gold by the RIAA on July 30, 1991, mainly on the strength of the single "I'll Never Let You Go" which reached No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was their only major hit in the US, making them a one-hit wonder.
