Stavesacre

Muscular, intelligent hard rock defined by a commanding baritone and thick, rhythmic tension. Powerful and introspective music for moments of high-stakes reflection.

Intro

Stavesacre sounds like the physical embodiment of a difficult internal monologue. It is heavy, guitar-driven rock that refuses to rely on simple aggression, instead opting for a dense, melodic wall of sound. The guitars are thick and often palm-muted, creating a rhythmic chug that feels like a heartbeat under pressure, while the bass lines are unusually prominent and melodic, providing a sophisticated foundation that sets them apart from their more simplistic peers.

What truly distinguishes the band is the vocal presence of Mark Salomon. Eschewing the typical screams of the post-hardcore scene, he delivers a rich, operatic baritone that can shift from a vulnerable croon to a thunderous, authoritative belt in a single breath. This vocal weight gives the music a sense of gravitas and maturity, making their explorations of doubt, faith, and identity feel like high-stakes philosophy rather than teenage angst.

Start with the 1997 masterpiece 'Absolutes'. It captures the band at their most cohesive, balancing the raw energy of their punk roots with the expansive, cinematic songwriting that became their hallmark. It is the definitive document of a band that was always too smart for the radio and too heavy for the pop charts.

Stavesacre is an American rock band from Huntington Beach, California formed in 1995. The band is composed of vocalist Mark Salomon, guitarists Jeff Bellew and Ryan Dennee, bassist Dirk Lemmenes and drummer Sam West. Stavesacre has released six studio albums, two EPs, one split album, one compilation, and one DVD. In 2007, the band stated they would disband following the recording of new songs with original guitarist Jeff Bellew, who had departed in 1999 after the recording of Speakeasy. Those songs were released in the 2009 Against the Silence EP/DVD documentary. However, after a period of inactivity, the band began writing new music in 2014, and in 2016 the group announced a crowdfunding project for its sixth studio album. MCMXCV was released in August 2017.
