Heavyweight breakbeat with a garage swing and deep bass. High-energy, syncopated rhythms designed to move a crowded room through the night.
Stanton Warriors deliver a masterclass in the 'broken beat' aesthetic, blending the swagger of UK garage with the raw power of old-school breakbeat. Their sound is defined by massive, rounded basslines that feel physically present and drum patterns that skip and hop with a syncopated swing. It is music that feels inherently urban and nocturnal, carrying the grit of a London warehouse party but polished with high-end studio precision.
What truly sets them apart is their ability to bridge the gap between hip-hop's sampling culture and the relentless energy of house music. They use vocal chops not just as hooks, but as rhythmic instruments, weaving them into the fabric of the beat. The 'Stanton sound' is recognizable for its warmth and weight; it avoids the brittle digital edge of modern EDM in favor of a punchy, analog-leaning thickness that hits you in the chest.
For the uninitiated, their 'Stanton Sessions' series is the essential entry point. These mixes capture the duo's ability to curate a vibe that is both sophisticated and rowdy. Start with 'Stanton Session Vol. 3' to hear them at their peak of cultural dominance, or dive into 'FabricLive 30' for a seamless journey through their bass-heavy philosophy.
Stanton Warriors are a British DJ and production duo consisting of Dominic Butler and Mark Yardley. Originally from the West Country, the duo have performed internationally with their infamous Stanton Sessions parties in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Their name was taken from a manhole cover, made by Stanton Ironworks. Stanton record player needles are popular with DJs for their ability to scratch records. The Stanton Warriors' third mix album was released in the UK on 27 October 2008, entitled Stanton Session Vol. 3, which is their best-seller to date, and received 5 out of 5 from iDJ. This was also released in a limited run, deluxe edition manhole cover tin pack. The graffiti style artwork (and their SW logo) seen on many of their releases and merchandise is the work of several renowned graffiti artists, SheOne and Rough, the latter of which won a design award for the artwork on the Stanton Warrior's single, "Da Antidote". The Stantons have been known to release free to download promotional DJ sets through their websites, where there is also live video footage of their gigs. Now based in West London, they run a successful record label (Punks) out of their recording studio.
