Spektrum

Gritty, live-instrumented house music with a playful, subversive edge. Funky basslines meet theatrical vocals for high-energy nights in the city.

Intro

Spektrum sounds like the exact moment a sophisticated art school party devolves into a sweaty, uninhibited basement rave. It is a collision of organic muscle and electronic precision, where thick, rubbery basslines and live drumming provide a physical foundation for glitchy synths and charismatic, soulful vocals. The music carries a distinct London grit, feeling both expensive and underground simultaneously.

What sets them apart is their refusal to be just another electronic act. By incorporating a full live band setup, including New Zealand-born rhythm sections, they inject a swing and human imperfection into house music that machines can't replicate. Their aesthetic is deeply playful, often using equestrian or colonial metaphors to poke fun at social structures while keeping the dance floor moving with relentless, 'wobbly' grooves.

Start with 'Kinda New' to hear the track that defined their club presence, then dive into the full 'Enter the Spektrum' album. It captures a specific mid-2000s era where the lines between indie-rock attitude and house music production completely blurred, resulting in something timelessly cool and endlessly danceable.

Spektrum is a London-based house act consisting of: Gabriel Olegavich (synths, programming and vocals), who was born in South East London and is based in Hackney; Lola Olafisoye (vocals), from North London; Isaac Tucker (drums) from New Zealand; Teia Williams (bass), a Maori also from New Zealand. The band had a No. 1 song on the UK Dance Chart in 2007, with the Dirty South remix of their 2004 track, "Kinda New". The same track had peaked at No. 70 on the UK Singles Chart in September 2004.
