Surgical, groove-heavy technical death metal with the precision of a machine. Sharp riffs and mechanical rhythms for high-focus intensity.
Soreption sounds like a factory where the robots have developed a sense of rhythm and a grudge. It is technical death metal stripped of its usual messy, organic chaos and replaced with a clinical, razor-sharp precision. The guitars don't just play riffs; they execute them with the accuracy of a laser cutter, moving between complex leads and heavy, syncopated chugs that feel more like percussion than melody.
What truly sets them apart is the 'groove' factor. While many of their peers focus on sheer speed or atmospheric dread, Soreption prioritizes a mechanical, staccato bounce. It is music that feels incredibly dense and fast, yet every single note is audible thanks to a production style that favors digital clarity and extreme compression. The vocals are a steady, rhythmic bark that anchors the shifting time signatures.
Start with Engineering the Void. It is the definitive statement of their sound, balancing their most iconic 'chugging' grooves with the dizzying technicality that made them a staple of the modern tech-death scene. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who wants their metal to sound like a high-performance engine redlining.
Soreption is a technical death metal band from Sundsvall, Västernorrlands län, Sweden. Formed in 2005, they are best known for their fast melodies and sharp, groovy riffs. Despite the band's Swedish nationality, Metal Hammer stated the opinion that the band's "brand of death metal just doesn’t sound that Swedish at all." They have released one EP and four full-length albums. In 2014, after the release of their album Engineering The Void, bass player Rickard Persson left the band and was replaced by Mikael Almgren of technical metal band Terminal Function. In December 2016, guitarist Anton Svedin left the band and was replaced by current bassist Mikael Almgren. Kim Lantto of Facial Abuse and Festering Remains joined as the new bass player. In 2019, the song "A Mimic's Ignorance" appeared in the Netflix show On My Block . In April 2022, the band announced their new album, Jord, would be released on June 10.
