Lush, sophisticated art-pop that feels like a vintage film set in Jakarta. Warm brass, jazz-inflected chords, and sunset harmonies for deep contemplation.
Sore creates a sound that is inextricably linked to the feeling of the late afternoon. Their music is a rich tapestry of vintage Indonesian pop sensibilities, sophisticated jazz harmonies, and cinematic orchestration. It feels like stepping into a beautifully shot, slightly melancholic film from the 1960s, yet it remains firmly rooted in the modern indie landscape. The production is consistently warm and analog, favoring organic textures over digital sheen.
What truly distinguishes the band is their collective approach to songwriting and performance. With multiple members contributing lead vocals and diverse musical ideas, their albums feel like curated exhibitions of mood. They utilize brass sections, lush string arrangements, and intricate vocal harmonies to build a 'wall of sound' that is gentle rather than aggressive. It is music that rewards close listening, revealing hidden melodic flourishes and poetic lyrical depth with every spin.
Newcomers should start with their landmark debut, Centralismo. It perfectly captures their signature blend of 'skut' (relaxed) energy and high-concept art-pop. From there, move to Ports of Lima for a deeper dive into their more experimental and cinematic tendencies. It is the ideal soundtrack for anyone who finds beauty in nostalgia and the quiet transition from day to night.
