Slipknot

A percussive wall of sound that hits like a physical weight. Aggressive, chaotic metal for when you need to turn your internal volume all the way up.

Intro

Slipknot emerged from Des Moines, Iowa, in the late 1990s as a radical evolution of the nu-metal movement. While often grouped with Korn and Limp Bizkit, Slipknot's sound was significantly more extreme, incorporating elements of death metal, thrash, and industrial music.

Their identity is inextricably linked to their nine-member 'tribe' structure and their use of masks, which served to dehumanize the individuals and emphasize a collective, nihilistic persona. The band's early work, specifically their 1999 self-titled debut and 2001's 'Iowa', set a new benchmark for mainstream metal intensity, achieving massive commercial success without compromising their abrasive sonic palette. Throughout their career, they have navigated significant tragedies, including the death of founding bassist Paul Gray and the passing of original drummer Joey Jordison, yet they have maintained a consistent cultural presence. Their influence is visible in the 'New Wave of American Heavy Metal' and modern metalcore, particularly in their use of rhythmic complexity and multi-vocalist dynamics. Critically, they are respected for their ability to balance radio-ready hooks with genuine sonic ugliness, a tension that has sustained their relevance for over two decades.
