High-velocity collisions of metalcore aggression and glitchy synth-pop. A frantic, neon-soaked rush for fans of heavy breakdowns and 8-bit textures.
Sky Eats Airplane was a pivotal force in the mid-2000s 'electronicore' scene, emerging from Fort Worth, Texas. Originally a duo consisting of Lee Duck and Brack Cantrell, they gained significant traction on MySpace by blending technical post-hardcore with heavy synth-pop and glitch elements.
Their 2006 debut, 'Everything Perfect on the Wrong Day', is considered a foundational text of the Nintendocore subgenre, characterized by its use of 8-bit sounds and programmed percussion within a metal framework. Following Cantrell's departure, the band expanded into a full lineup, signing to Equal Vision Records and refining their sound into a more technical, progressive form of metalcore on their 2008 self-titled release. Their career was marked by frequent lineup changes, including the addition of notable drummer Travis Orbin, which pushed their sound toward more complex rhythmic territories. Despite their abrupt disbandment in 2011, they remain a cult favorite for their role in bridging the gap between the DIY electronic scene and the mainstream Warped Tour aesthetic.
