Sketch

Sketch is a Norwegian electronica duo consisting of Tor Jorgensen and Kai Mikalsen, primarily active during the mid-1990s to late 2000s. Emerging from the fertile Scandinavian electronic scene that also birthed artists like Biosphere, Sketch specialized in a form of 'arctic ambient' that blended the rhythmic sensibilities of early IDM with the vast, spatial textures of environmental ambient.

Their sound identity is defined by high-frequency clarity, deep sub-bass pulses, and a notable absence of traditional melodic hooks, favoring instead the evolution of timbre and atmosphere. Their career arc is best represented by the 'Abeyance' series, which saw them refining a minimalist aesthetic that avoided the 'glitch' tropes of the era in favor of smoother, more fluid transitions. Critically, they are regarded as a cult act within the ambient techno community, often cited for their ability to evoke specific cold-weather environments without relying on literal field recordings.
