Intro

Simon Says delivers a quintessential slice of the turn-of-the-millennium Sacramento sound, blending the raw aggression of alternative metal with the hook-heavy sensibilities of modern rock. Their music is defined by thick, down-tuned guitar riffs that lock into tight, syncopated drum patterns, creating a rhythmic foundation that feels both muscular and agile. It is the sound of a band that grew up in the same fertile scene as Deftones and Papa Roach, sharing that specific California blend of suburban angst and technical proficiency.

What sets them apart is the vocal delivery of Matt Franks, which navigates the space between melodic vulnerability and guttural intensity without falling into the clichés of the era. The production is crisp and punchy, emphasizing the 'clank' of the bass and the snap of the snare, ensuring that even their heaviest moments maintain a sense of clarity and forward momentum. It is music built for movement, whether that is in a mosh pit or behind the wheel of a car.

For those looking to dive in, 'Jump Start' is the essential gateway. It captures the band at their commercial peak, offering a balanced mix of radio-friendly singles and deeper, more experimental tracks that hint at their progressive leanings. It is a perfect time capsule of the era that still carries enough genuine grit to feel relevant to modern heavy music fans.
