Silent Circle

Silent Circle is a foundational German Eurodisco trio formed in 1985, consisting of Martin Tychsen, Axel Breitung, and CC Behrens. They emerged during the second wave of European dance music, bridging the gap between the playful melodies of Italo Disco and the more rigid, polished production of German synth-pop.

Their debut single, 'Touch In The Night', remains a genre benchmark, showcasing Breitung's sophisticated arrangement skills and Tychsen's emotive vocal presence. Throughout the 1980s, they were central figures in the 'Zyx' sound, characterized by high-fidelity digital synthesis and driving 4/4 rhythms. Axel Breitung's role is particularly significant; as a producer, he became one of the most prolific architects of the Eurodance sound in the 1990s (working with DJ Bobo and Modern Talking), and his technical evolution is visible through Silent Circle's discography. Critically, they are regarded as one of the 'Big Three' of German Eurodisco alongside Modern Talking and Bad Boys Blue, though they are often cited by collectors for having a slightly more 'serious' or melancholic tone than their peers. Their influence persists in modern synthwave and the ongoing revival of 80s electronic aesthetics.
