Sideburn

Sideburn is a Swedish stoner rock and heavy metal outfit formed in 1997, emerging from the fertile Stockholm underground scene. Founded by guitarist Morgan Zocek and drummer Tor Pentèn, the band was born from a shared obsession with the bluesy, heavy foundations of the 1970s, specifically the works of Black Sabbath, Rainbow, and Deep Purple, while incorporating the contemporary desert rock sensibilities of Kyuss.

Over their career, they have evolved from a raw, blues-rock focused unit into a more sophisticated heavy rock entity that incorporates elements of doom and psychedelic rock. Their sound identity is characterized by Zocek's masterful use of pentatonic scales filtered through high-gain vintage amplification and Jani Kataja's soulful, gravel-toned vocals. Despite being often overshadowed by more commercially successful Swedish peers, Sideburn has maintained a dedicated cult following and critical respect for their refusal to modernize their sound, sticking instead to an analog-heavy, groove-centric philosophy. Their discography, particularly 'IV Monument', represents a bridge between the classic rock era and the modern stoner metal movement.
