Si*Sé

Sultry bilingual vocals floating over sophisticated urban grooves. It is the sound of a New York lounge at 2 AM, blending trip-hop textures with Latin warmth.

Intro

Si*Sé creates a sound that feels like the intersection of a rainy Manhattan street and a sun-drenched courtyard in San Juan. Their music is anchored by Carol C’s breathy, effortless delivery, which glides between English and Spanish with a natural grace. The production is a masterclass in restraint, using deep, dubby basslines and crisp electronic percussion to create a sense of movement that never feels rushed.

What truly sets them apart is the integration of live instrumentation, particularly the prominent use of viola and violin. These strings add a cinematic, melancholic depth to the electronic foundations, elevating the music from standard 'chillout' to something more permanent and emotional. It is sophisticated without being cold, and rhythmic without being aggressive.

For those new to the band, their self-titled debut is the essential starting point. It captures the early 2000s downtempo movement at its peak, offering a collection of tracks that work equally well as immersive headphone experiences or as the sophisticated backdrop to a late-night gathering.

Si*Sé is a downtempo and electronic group from New York City. The main members of the band are Carol C (vocals, DJ) and Cliff Cristofaro (producer). Other members of the band include Ryan Farley (drums), Neil Ochoa (percussion) and Morgan Phillips (Bass). Jeannie Oliver was the viola player during the first two albums, but left the band in 2005. Olivia Martinez (viola) and Tarrah Reynolds (violin) have also played in place of Jeannie over the years. They rose to prominence in 2001, on a worldwide tour with David Byrne. They have also performed with Norah Jones, Kinky, Kraftwerk, Los Amigos Invisibles, Gotan Project, James Brown, Julieta Venegas, Cesaria Evora, and Natacha Atlas.
