High-octane Australian pop punk with a neon synth-pop edge. Polished, rebellious, and built for loud singalongs on coastal road trips.
Short Stack sounds like the exact intersection of a sweaty punk basement and a neon-lit dance floor. Their sound is defined by aggressive, crunchy guitar riffs that are smoothed over by high-gloss studio production and shimmering electronic textures. It is music that feels perpetually stuck in the exhilarating rush of being nineteen, full of hooks that demand to be shouted back at a stage.
What makes them distinctive is their unapologetic embrace of the 'neon' era of pop punk, blending the snarl of The Living End with the synth-heavy sensibilities of mid-2000s power pop. While many of their peers stuck to a strictly organic palette, Short Stack integrated glitchy electronics and danceable rhythms that give their tracks a unique, almost cinematic urban energy.
Start with 'Stack Is the New Black' to hear the band at their commercial and cultural peak. It captures the frantic energy and infectious songwriting that made them a phenomenon in Australia, serving as a perfect gateway into their evolution from mall-punk heroes to more mature alt-rockers.
