Intro

Savage brings a massive, physical presence to the speakers, defined by one of the most recognizable baritone voices in modern hip-hop. His sound is built on a foundation of thick, low-end frequencies and rhythmic precision that feels equally at home in a Pacific Island backyard or a high-end nightclub. There is an unmistakable weight to his delivery, a gravitational pull that anchors even his most frantic electronic collaborations in a sense of cool, collected power.

What sets him apart is the seamless transition from the gritty, narrative-driven roots of New Zealand hip-hop to the global EDM-rap crossover space. He utilizes his voice as a percussion instrument, often employing staccato phrasing and repetitive, infectious hooks that are engineered for maximum crowd participation. Whether he is riding a minimalist bounce or a maximalist synth drop, the energy remains consistently high and unapologetically celebratory.

Start with the 2005 classic 'Swing' to understand his foundational impact on club rap, then move to 'Freaks' to hear how his vocal gravity transformed a bounce track into a global phenomenon. For a deeper look at his lyrical identity, 'Moonshine' offers a more melodic, atmospheric take on his signature style.

Demetrius C. Savelio (born 28 June 1981), better known by his stage name Savage, is a New Zealand hip hop recording artist, record producer and member of hip hop group the Deceptikonz. Savage was the first New Zealand hip hop artist to have a commercial single achieve platinum certification status in the United States. The "International Breakthrough" accolade of the Pacific Music Awards was created in his honour. Savage also has applied his recognisable voice in the electronic dance music space with 5× platinum hit ''Freaks'' with Timmy Trumpet, and 4 times platinum hit ''Swing'' with Joel Fletcher.
