Intro

Rumspringa sounds like a lightning storm captured in a small, wooden room. It is the sound of two people playing with the volume and intensity of five, anchored by Joey Stevens' jagged, blues-inflected guitar work and vocals that sound like they are tearing through a thin veil. The music carries the heat of a Los Angeles summer and the frantic energy of a band that knows exactly how to use silence just to make the next crash louder.

What sets them apart is the technical agility hidden beneath the garage-rock grime. While many duos rely on simple power chords, Rumspringa utilizes intricate looping and syncopated rhythmic shifts that feel both loose and incredibly tight. There is a sense of 'rebirth' as their name suggests, a restless searching that prevents the songs from ever feeling stagnant or purely retro.

Start with the 'Sway' album to hear them at their most cohesive. It captures the transition from their raw duo beginnings into a more expansive, yet still biting, sonic identity. It is perfect for anyone who loves the grit of the White Stripes but wants more psychedelic complexity and vocal urgency.

Rumspringa is a rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band's name was inspired by the Amish rite of passage, Rumspringa, and the rhetorical rebirth and exploration it represents. Rumspringa formed in 2006 as a duo with Joey Stevens on guitar/vocals and Itaru De la Vega on drums. Starting in 2010, the duo shifted over to a full band with two new musicians, including a new drummer. Ricardo Robles joined on bass, Cecilia Della Peruta on guitar, and Andrew Parker on drums. Parker is also a member of the band Soft Sailors.
