Intro

Roosbeef sounds like a conversation with a brilliant, slightly eccentric friend who notices the things everyone else misses. The music is built on a foundation of warm, organic instrumentation, often led by Roos Rebergen's distinctive piano work and a rhythm section that feels lived-in and intuitive. It is melodic and accessible, yet there is always a 'raw edge' that prevents it from feeling too precious or polished.

What truly sets the band apart is Rebergen's lyrical perspective. She writes in Dutch with a refreshing, almost childlike honesty that can turn suddenly sharp or surreal. Her vocal delivery is equally unique, moving from a breathy intimacy to a more forceful, declamatory style that emphasizes the rhythmic qualities of the language. It is music that feels deeply rooted in the Low Countries but possesses a universal emotional intelligence.

For those new to the band, the 2008 debut 'Ze willen wel je hond aaien maar niet met je praten' remains a perfect entry point for its youthful energy and wit. However, the 2020 album 'Lucky' showcases a more mature, refined sound influenced by Rebergen's time in the American South, offering a richer, more expansive take on their signature indie pop style.

Roosbeef is a Dutch band from Duiven formed around singer-songwriter Roos Rebergen. They are acclaimed for their original lyrics and musical style. Rebergen describes their style as melodic pop music with a raw edge. The band won the Grote Prijs van Nederland in the category singer-songwriter in 2005. A self-titled EP was released in 2007. They released their first full-length album, titled Ze Willen Wel Je Hond Aaien Maar Niet Met Je Praten ("They Do Want To Pet Your Dog, But They Don't Want To Talk To You") on 15 December 2008. It entered the Dutch Album Top 100 on 20 December 2008, and reached its highest position of 16th seven weeks later. The album has been described as refreshing and original. Their second album Omdat ik dat wil was released on 9 September 2011. It was a greater popular success than the preceding album, reaching the 6th position on the Dutch Album Top 100.
