Roll Deep

High-octane East London grime that bridges pirate radio grit with chart-topping hooks. Aggressive synths and relentless flows for late nights and loud rooms.

Intro

Roll Deep sounds like the frantic, electric pulse of London in the mid-2000s. It is the sound of 140 BPM riddims, icy square-wave synths, and a rotating cast of MCs passing the mic with surgical precision. The music carries the raw, unpolished energy of a Rinse FM broadcast, where the bass is heavy enough to vibrate your teeth and the lyrical delivery is fast enough to leave you breathless.

What makes them distinctive is their unique position as a 'supergroup' that birthed the biggest names in UK urban music. They managed to maintain a foot in the underground grime scene while simultaneously crafting massive, melodic pop-rap crossovers. This duality creates a sound that is both menacingly cold and infectious, characterized by the 'Eskibeat' style pioneered by Wiley: brittle textures, sparse percussion, and a relentless, forward-moving momentum.

Start with 'In at the Deep End' to hear the crew at their creative peak, balancing street anthems with polished production. It captures the transition from the pirate radio era to the global stage, showcasing the individual brilliance of members like Flowdan and Dizzee Rascal within a cohesive, high-energy collective framework.

Roll Deep (formerly Roll Deep Entourage) are a British grime crew. They were founded in 2001 by Wiley shortly before the disbandment of UK garage crew Pay As U Go Cartel. The group have had two UK No. 1 singles, "Good Times" and "Green Light", won an Urban Music Award, and between 2001 and 2012 they released five studio albums before entering an indefinite hiatus in 2013. Current member Wiley and former members Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder have gone on to be successful solo artists in the UK, with songs that have topped charts. Flowdan won a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Recording in 2024 for the song 'Rumble' (with Fred Again and Skrillex).
