Intro

Return captures the quintessential sound of the late 1980s Scandinavian rock scene, where big hair and even bigger choruses reigned supreme. Their music is a blend of melodic hard rock and deeply sentimental power ballads, characterized by shimmering synthesizer layers and driving guitar riffs that feel designed for open-air arenas. There is a distinct warmth to their production that evokes a specific era of analog recording, making every track feel like a rediscovered radio hit from a simpler time.

What truly sets Return apart is their unwavering commitment to the melodic rock formula. While many of their contemporaries drifted into grunge or metal, Return doubled down on the hook-heavy songwriting that made them superstars in Norway. The interplay between Knut Erik Østgård's emotive, high-register vocals and the band's tight, rhythmic foundation creates a sense of earnestness that is rare in the often-cynical world of rock. It is music that wears its heart on its sleeve, celebrating love, loss, and the freedom of the open road.

For those new to the band, the 1988 album Attitudes is the definitive starting point. It contains the DNA of their most successful era, balancing aggressive rockers with the tear-jerking ballads that became their signature. Whether you are looking for a high-energy soundtrack for a drive or a nostalgic trip back to the peak of melodic rock, Return provides the perfect, unpretentious gateway.

Return is a Norwegian rock band from Stange Municipality in Hedmark county (now part of Innlandet county). The band started in 1980 and was in its prime in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In this period, they had several singles on the Norwegian hit charts and were among the bestselling bands in the country. They won "NRK´s Rockemønstring" in 1985. In 1993 the band took a break but came back in 2001 with a collection and some gigs. In 2005, they released a new studio album, and in 2008, they released another collection which also includes a DVD with shots from a concert in Hamar in 2007. The band's musical style has gone through minimal changes through almost three decades; they have kept most of the typical 1980s rock, with a substantial amount of power ballads. The band have hits in their native Norway and in other countries such as Switzerland.
