Recoil

Dense, cinematic soundscapes that feel like a midnight walk through a rain-soaked city. Meticulously crafted electronic noir for deep listening and dark moods.

Intro

Recoil sounds like the secret, darker heart of electronic music. It is a world of shadows, where archival blues samples meet high-fidelity industrial textures and trip-hop rhythms. The music moves with a deliberate, slow-burning intensity, prioritizing atmosphere and sonic depth over traditional pop structures. It feels expensive, meticulously engineered, and deeply private.

What makes the project distinctive is Alan Wilder's mastery of the sampler as a narrative tool. He doesn't just loop sounds; he builds entire environments out of them. You'll hear the crackle of old vinyl, the breath of a vocalist inches from the mic, and orchestral swells that feel like they are decaying in real-time. It is the sound of 'Violator' stripped of its pop hooks and left to wander into a David Lynch film.

Start with 'Bloodline' to hear the perfect bridge between his work in Depeche Mode and his experimental future. From there, move to 'Unsound Methods' for a deeper dive into spoken word noir and gospel-inflected darkness. It is music for people who want to get lost in the production as much as the mood.

Recoil is a musical project created by English musician and former Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder. Recoil began whilst Wilder was still in Depeche Mode as an outlet for his experimental, less pop-oriented compositions. Once he announced his departure from the group in 1995, Recoil became Wilder's primary musical enterprise.
