Intro

Rain Parade was a cornerstone of the Los Angeles 'Paisley Underground' scene in the early 1980s, a movement that revived 1960s psychedelic aesthetics within an indie rock framework. Founded by Matt Piucci and David Roback, the band's sound was characterized by a sophisticated blend of Byrds-esque jangle and darker, more experimental textures.

Their 1983 debut, 'Emergency Third Rail Power Trip,' is widely considered one of the most influential neo-psychedelic albums of its era, noted for its complex guitar interplay and ethereal vocal harmonies. Following the departure of David Roback (who later formed Opal and Mazzy Star), the band continued to refine their sound toward a more polished, Island Records-backed aesthetic on 'Crashing Dream.' Critically, they are lauded for avoiding the kitsch of retro-revivalism, instead creating a moody, atmospheric template that paved the way for dream pop and shoegaze. Their influence is felt in the work of artists ranging from My Bloody Valentine to Beach House. After a multi-decade hiatus, the band returned in the 2010s, eventually releasing new material that maintains their signature shimmering, melancholic sound.
