Radio Moscow

High-octane psychedelic blues that feels like a lost 1970s master tape. Raw, fuzzy power-trio energy for fans of heavy riffs and blistering guitar solos.

Intro

Radio Moscow sounds like a time capsule from 1971 that was buried in a desert and struck by lightning. It is a thick, humid wall of sound built on the foundation of the heavy blues, but played with a frantic, modern urgency that prevents it from ever feeling like a mere museum piece. The guitars are perpetually on the edge of feedback, drenched in wah-wah and tape echo, while the rhythm section provides a swinging, muscular backbone that keeps the chaos focused.

What truly sets them apart is the sheer technical velocity of Parker Griggs' guitar work. While many retro-rock bands settle for a slow, Sabbath-inspired crawl, Radio Moscow leans into the hyper-kinetic energy of Blue Cheer or early Hendrix. There is a restless, jittery quality to the arrangements; songs often shift from a heavy stomp into a double-time psychedelic freak-out without warning, capturing the feeling of a live band pushing their equipment to the absolute breaking point.

Start with 'Brain Cycles' to hear the band at their most cohesive and powerful. It perfectly balances their knack for catchy, blues-based hooks with the sprawling, improvisational spirit of 70s jam-rock. If you want something even grittier and more primitive, their self-titled debut offers a masterclass in garage-psych production that feels remarkably intimate and explosive.

Radio Moscow is an American psychedelic rock band from Story City, Iowa. Formed in 2003, the band currently features singer-guitarist Parker Griggs, bassist Anthony Meier and drummer Paul Marrone. Signed to Alive Naturalsound Records, the trio has released five full-length albums as of June 2017. There was an earlier British hard rock band called "Radio Moscow," active from 1987 into the 1990s, which featured Brian Tatler, of Diamond Head on guitar.
